Waverly Hills Sanatorium

And Room 502

Thought to be one of the most haunted places on earth the 'Waverly Hills sanatorium' was first opened in 1910.  Originally a two-storey wooden structure the Waverly Hills sanatorium was replaced in 1926 with the large brick and concrete building that still stands.  Waverly Hills was used as a hospital dedicated to the treatment of Tuberculosis.

With an estimated death count of 63,000 within its walls the Waverly Hills sanatorium boasts a long list of reported phenomena, including: voices of unknown origin, unexplained shadows, cold spots, disembodied screams and mysterious apparitions.

Of all the rooms within the Waverly Hills sanatorium room 502 is the most notorious.  Said to have been the setting for at least two suicides, including those of a nurse known as 'Mary Hillenburg' who hung herself in room 502 after becoming pregnant out of wedlock, and that of another nurse who is said to have jumped out of the window of room 502.

Ghost hunters and other visitors to Waverly Hills sanatorium frequently report sightings of so called 'Shadow People', apparitions that appear to have substance, but are however able to walk through walls, etc.

The current owners of Waverly Hills are seeking permission to convert the sanatorium into a hotel, would you be brave enough to spend the night?
